PRESENTATION
To explore ideas for further enhancing CLIL practices in English with young learners (pre-primary and early primary) through experiences in Finland.
OBJETIVES
Each session focuses on one aspect of successful early English language teaching and learning. These include home-school cooperation and pedagogical activities which include support for child wellbeing, motivation, differentiation. Participants will be invited to explore practical ideas in their own classrooms to see if and how Finnish approaches can be successfully realized in Cantabrian schools.

FACILITATORS
David Marsh has contributed to the development of education in Finland over 25 years, alongside being involved with developing transformative educational processes in Asia, Europe the Middle East and North America. He co-launched Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in the 1990s, has contributed to over 150 publications, and received 5 degrees from the United Kingdom, Finland and Spain. He is currently developing competence-based English language learning pathways that combine CLIL with transversals across the curriculum. These are being developed to enable change management in historically low-attainment contexts.
Tuula Asikainen has received a Presidential award in Finland for her work on the internationalisation of education.
Tuula has experience in launching and teaching in CLIL programmes with English as the CLIL language. She has taught in primary, secondary, upper secondary and vocational education, and has also worked as a school principal.
Tuula has has coordinated and taught dozens of CLIL teacher professional development courses across Europe. She has also been involved in a number of national and international CLIL projects, including the CLIL Cascade Network (CCN, 2007-2010) financed by the European Union. From 2012 to 2014, Tuula was based in the United Arab Emirates working for the Abu Dhabi Education Council. Her work there included facilitation of academic reading and writing development in CPD and MA programmes.
