CONTENT & SCHEDULE
- Day 1: Routines, roles and responsibility
On Day 1 We shall look at getting lessons started quickly and efficiently, making transitions between activities transitions smooth, creating and assigning fun and exciting roles for them, getting our learners doing as much as they can and anchoring language to all of that.
- Day 2: Providing support with language
On Day 2 we shall look at how we can help our learners recall core vocabulary, help them with worksheets and activities from the book, adapt tasks for struggling or more advanced learners and generally get them saying more words and sentences in English.
- Day 3: Mini-events and cool projects
On Day 3 we shall look at how we can seize upon random classroom happenings to create ‘mini-events’ in English and also how we might engineer small happenings in order to allow genuine communication and use of the language in class. We shall also look at some simple craft activities and short projects that your learners are certain to enjoy.
METHODOLOGY
The trainer will not try to convince you of any one system, approach, or commercial materials. Rather, on the course, each evening, you will see dozens and dozens of practical techniques, classroom micro-strategies and easily adaptable low preparation activities that you will be able to try out in your classroom immediately, should you wish. The emphasis will be on providing you with multiple options and additional angles to complement your current practice. Some of the ideas appear in the trainer’s methodology book Structuring Fun for Young Learners (2020) and the many articles he has written over the years, but no pre-reading is necessary. Handouts and light, optional, follow up reading will be provided on the course. There will be colorful anecdotes, examples of Chris’ students’ work and photographs from his own classes with time for discussion and questions as well. As well as being useful, we think you are sure to find the training evenings highly enjoyable and invigorating.
